KattyBats and Money For Nothing

What’s a job you would like to do for just one day?

Years ago, I landed a nice job offer to work for a printing company located 15 miles south of Portland. I was happy to get the job as I was newly single and needed to pay the bills. In retrospect if that is what is motivating us we’re doing things for the wrong reason.

Maslow Hierarchy of Needs

You don’t realize it at the time, you have more skills than you think, and your money is not as tight as envisioned. There is a certain satisfaction of not having to look for a job. So you take that job just to stop looking for a job and get the bills paid on time.

First Week of Work

When we start a new job, people always ask us, How’s the new job? The first week of the job you are filling out forms and trying to get your computer to work and learning peoples names. You tell your friends I love my new job., but I didn’t.

Driving To Work

The commute was a fiasco. I lived in the middle of the city and I had to drive out to the suburbs. Sitting in a car for 45 minutes; it’s a complete waste of time. Especially when you’re dreading getting to your job..

My first week in the job I didn’t like it there. There were heavy undertones of the good old boys system. People were there to protect their jobs.. Working there was like one big double elimination tournament. Our boss was so wishy-washy and non-supportive and worked safely within the system. We called a group of women we worked with the KattyBats. They sat around and gossiped about everybody. One of them did make delicious jam. However, the head KattyBat was a lawsuit, waiting to happen. She often talked about the last thing she heard on the RushbLimbaugh show. She did have good grammar when she complained about me driving a Prius.

I wish I only worked there for one day.

I had a coworker who started the same day as me. She has become one of my favorite people I will miss her when we move north We had a good time at the company and eventually worked some very challenging projects on the East Coast. I met plenty of great people there and if I only worked there for one day, I would not have made these great connections at the end of my stint there.. These weren’t business connections. That’s not what I do.

These were friends with a sense of humor, a sense of getting things done and making the best of a company that was sinking into the ground.

I hope I answered your question.

This is a very honest, reflective, and human piece of writing. 🌿

What stands out most is the clarity of hindsight—you show how decisions often come from immediate needs (stability, bills, survival), but only later do we start questioning the deeper “why” behind them. The reference to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs adds a thoughtful psychological layer that ties the experience to something universal.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
