Every Trip is an Adventure

What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?

Stating the obvious, but it should be assumed that we would not put ourselves or our families in danger when traveling

I’ve been to a lot of boring places in my life and they were a lot of fun.

There we are in Nebraska celebrating Arbor Day in a place that doesn’t even have a tree.

Texas

I had a work assignment in Texas and I went kicking and fighting. I made the best of it and I actually met a lot of great people.

The South

I remember driving through Mississippi and my buddy saying his favorite city in Mississippi is Shreveport. I said that’s great Tom, it’s in Louisiana.

Tourist Traps

Neuschwanstein is an example. I think after a while I got castled out. But it was fun to watch the Japanese tourists makes snow cones from the snow on the side of the road.

Mt Rushmore

I had the worst meal in my entire life in Wyoming going to Mount Rushmore. They said they could make something vegan and I got mushrooms in a bowl of grease. But that is the adventure of traveling. If everything went according to plan, what stories would we have to tell?

Mount Rushmore has presidents faces on a mountain, and a gift shop. The surrounding countryside is something to experience, but skip Mount Rushmore.

Random Notes

  • Florida is bizarre without any nuance.
  • I find Brussels as one of the more boring cities I have visited.
  • I have not been to two states, both Iowa and Alaska.
  • LAX is a horrible airport, followed by JFK.
  • I was in Columbia during the Pablo Escobar era. That was awesome and probably shouldn’t have been.
  • I would rather not go to a zoo again.
  • Disney – I dreaded going to Disney. Our grandson tells a story about how they lost Opa in an elevator at Disney. That story makes me laugh every time.
  • Mall Of America- I never wanted to go to the mall of America. We were in Minneapolis and killing time after running the marathon the previous day. It was a fun 4 1/2 laughed filled hours probably on a post endorphin high. We met the Smothers Brothers in a bar there

Every trip is an adventure. My daughter and I got stranded in a Philadelphia airport one time for two days because of a raging snowstorm. Two days of vending machine food is not fun at the time. But it is an experience we shall always talk about.

So there is no place I’d rather not visit.

This is a wonderfully honest and entertaining reflection on travel—full of humor, lived experience, and perspective. 🌍

What makes it especially engaging is the balance between frustration and appreciation. Even when you mention “boring places” or less-than-ideal meals, there’s always a sense of curiosity and acceptance underneath it all. That shift—turning inconvenience into story—is what gives your writing its charm.

Thank you very much. I appreciate that. These little antidotes are probably the tip of the iceberg.

I will get to Iowa one day

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
