Sun Comes Up It’s Wednesday Morning

What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

I have stated this previously, It may sound like a snarky response, but it is actually not. A country as rich as ours is embarrassing. How many homeless people we have. To a person living on the street a blanket is a luxury item.

A Moving Experience

We have a large chalkboard in our kitchen. I keep a running tab of things I have not found during the move.. and in the spirit of the question, I am living without them.

Those items include, our biking shoes, a bathroom scale, a remote for the Bose radio, and an extension cord for the record player (since found) .

Access to Health Care.

When I was in grad school, four friends and myself, we wrote a book. The opening line in the book was. The world is safe, secure and completely ridiculous..

Here is a perfectly ridiculous example. I transferred a prescription to a local store here in Everett.. I got a notice that it was ready and the bill was $102.63.. it was then, that I realized the insurance information did not transfer over.

So I went into my wallet, to get my insurance card and it wasn’t there. I remembered I had to use it the other day and must not have put it back my wallet. Two houses in the middle of a move. That card could be anywhere..

The Slueth in Me

There’s an app called MyChart and I thought my information would be in there. And in a sense it was. I found the information for access to healthcare.. The group number and a bunch of other medical terms were easily found.

I called back the pharmacy and they told me there are a bunch of different data points for prescriptions. This information is on the back of your card.

HIPAA Hip Hurray

My mind worked backwards and I knew I would have to reverse engineer this. I figured my old pharmacy had this information because they were billing me $2.02 for the same prescription.. Because of HIPAA I thought there was no way they would give me that information.

However, they answered on the first ring and they gave me a long series of numbers. I didn’t know which one was which but I believe I had the information I needed.

I called back the pharmacy and we were able to figure it out.

I was able to get my medication for $2.02

Yes, I could’ve lived without that medication. I would just be a little less focused..

Is healthcare a luxury item?

The United States: The U.S. remains the only developed nation without a universal healthcare system. Instead, it relies on a complex hybrid of private employer-sponsored insurance and government-funded public programs like Medicare and Medicaid. [World Health Organization)

In most countries it is a right and not a luxury item.

I want that to bed that night, feeling mostly complete and ready for sleep. I opened up the book I was reading. The book I was reading was intermediate short stories in German. I opened up the book where the bookmark sat. They’re in the book was my healthcare card that I was using as a bookmark..

A thoughtful and engaging reflection that blends personal experience with larger social questions. I particularly appreciated how an everyday challenge during a move led to a deeper discussion about healthcare, privilege, and what we often take for granted. Your writing is both relatable and thought-provoking, reminding us that what seems ordinary to some can be a luxury to others. Well written!

That there is a funny story.

I have your mailing address, and will send you an actual bookmark so you can find a better place for your ID card. Actually, I’ll just mail you an empty envelope and you can use that.

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
