I remember my stepdad had a bumper sticker that read “he who dies with the most toys wins. “ what utter BS.

I’ve been part of an international running group for 38 years. The Hash House Harriers are an international running group. I’ve run hashes in many different places mostly in the United States.

It is good natured and fun. We are called up to do down downs when we do something stupid at a run. A down down is simply a large sip of beer from a glass or vessel. Some of the infractions include., talking about work, wearing a running shirt or new shoes or getting lost on trail.

My good friend, Michael, has run with me and lived in the same places as myself. We ran together in Oregon, Washington, Ohio, and most notably, Washington DC. We may have run together overseas.

When I moved to Oregon, he delivered to me, 24 cans of Yuengling beer which is not available on the West Coast. we all get secret names in this running group and his hash name was Bee F##k.

Michael was simply a caring kind person. His death has hit me, especially hard. He died after a two-year battle with colon cancer.

May I repeat that he was an extremely kind person, when I say that with tears in my eyes , That is all that really matters.

What is really special about his name is yes there’s a vulgar word in there. But Michael loved bees and he knew how important they were to the planet.

I hope we all do.

I spent the last 24 hours preparing for a colonoscopy. I did 10 down downs of the most vile liquid there is on this planet. I may disappointment a long time ago.. ironically, I do these in his honor.

Michael, you will be missed.

And in the end it doesn’t matter how much money we made rather the people we affect on the way.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
