The Side Effects of Endorphins

I run with a group of people out for a good time. The Hash House Harriers or an international group you could find an almost any city across the globe. We happen to drink beer during the run, and after the runs as well.

We had just finished a run in a vicious thunderstorm. The trail took us up towards the national Cathedral. The sky turned pitch black, lightning struck nearby and the streets were flooded by the deluge. There was no trail to be found. Trails are marked in flour , and tonight’s trail was washed away by the heavy rain.

After the run, I stood sipping a beer with a friend named Sven. He was from Finland and he came to runs infrequently. We did our usual complaining about the trail and he laughed and he said to me..

Mark, if everything went according the plan what stories, would we have to tell

And this quote rings so true. Whatever it takes to get us out of our comfort zone that is when life becomes interesting.

These days there are once in a lifetime events seeming to happen every single day. The extraordinary has become ordinary.

What Sven was specifically talking about here was related to travel, but can be extrapolated into all parts of life. Certainly we all want to get to our destinations right on time and feeling great. Life doesn’t always work out that way, and when it doesn’t, it’s good to just step back and cherish the adventure..

This is no dress rehearsal this is our life as All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players”, as “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, and why let’s the truth get in the way of a perfectly good story?

There’s a lot of great stories to be told.
