Suspension of Reality

What’s a piece of media (book, movie, song) that changed how you see the world?

I wrote a piece earlier called Find All The Unused Acronyms trying to scratch the surface of this question that has so many tentacles. That is the reason for Art. When I listen to a song, read a book or watch a movie I somewhat expect it to alter the way I see the world. Sure there are many reasons to partake and sometimes it is nostalgia. Even listening for nostalgic purposes that piece of art changed your worldview previously.

Dark Of The Moon

When I was in high school, I excelled in baseball and football. But one fine day, I decided to piss off my football coach and go out for the play. I tried out and played the part of an old man who smoked a pipe and said wise things.

The experience was tremendous. It opened my world to a whole new group of friends who were artists and dreamers. It exposed a part of my personality. I didn’t know I had. I had something to say.

I sit here reflecting on that, listening to Miles Davis album “Kind of Blue”

There is a bench

I know nestled in

the beach grass

where calming cool

breezes along with

the hypnotic roar of

the ocean almost

makes me feel guilty

for listening to

Miles Davis

Miles Davis does that to people,

Led Zeppelin never did, but here I ramble on the Dark Side of the Moon.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

I’m Mark

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
