I walked to the train station, and I was already 10 minutes late. The trains and Germany were not as reliable as they once were still, I would be at the train station in 15 minutes. I would be meeting my daughter there. It was a cold and miserable late autumn afternoon. She then phoned me that she would be late also. So, I decided to take a few minutes and do some quick grocery shopping at the store next to the train station.

I hated this Aldi, especially on a Saturday afternoon, which is the day before the grocery stores close on Sundays. Shopping there was then an adventure. there was one eggplant on the shelf, and my daughter wanted a lemon and some garlic.

It is a concept. I remember years ago when in the United States when there were blue laws limiting sales on Sunday. Berks County Pennsylvania had, and still does, some similarities to that of Germany. I love Sundays in Germany. The days are quieter and there is no need to go shopping. You build your life around that.

I finished my shopping and walked towards the main train station. There I saw my daughter walking with confidence. Her daughter followed on her scooter.  It was nice to be visiting her. I wish I could be living close to her. I am happy she lives in a place that is not the United States.

That is life in Germany as one need not a car and get forget about shopping on Sundays. Sundays are a quiet day where it is inpolite to work using loud power tools or lawn mowers. Most young people do not have lawns to take care of as apartments are much more affordable as well as practical. Try explaining to a three-year-old that you can not play kangaroo hop in the living room. I was happy she left the scooter downstairs. For the most part, you do not have to worry about keeping a three-year quiet. By that age they realize Sundays are a quiet time.

Note these are small sketches of Berlin and possibly other places in Germany. The hope is to capture the mood of the evening with an addendum in German. I will master that language one day.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
