I came home from a run many years ago. My wife and daughter picked up a black lab as a Christmas present for me. Long story short Cooper was raised on a pot farm in rural Washington. My wife said when she adopted him, as he was just different in a good way.

At first I was resistant because I always had Beagles. Hands-down Cooper was the best dog I’ve been friends with. He was smart. He was funny and he was empathetic.

He passed away recently and he’s missed daily.

There are many things that set him apart, but he had a six sense of empathy towards those around him. You could see it in his eyes.

    What a beautiful tribute to Cooper. ❤️ Some dogs enter our lives as pets, but somehow become family, companions, and quiet teachers of love.

    I was especially touched by your description of his empathy—the way you could see it in his eyes. That kind of connection is difficult to explain, but impossible to forget. And perhaps the fact that you were initially a little resistant makes his place in your heart even more special. He didn’t simply become another dog; he became Cooper, completely irreplaceable.

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
