I went into the World Cup, generally hating FIFA. I especially soured initially when corporate America introduced water breaks even when the temperatures were cool. Some games were played in air conditioning.

The Games were thrilling

There’s no arguing about this. There were matches here in Seattle and the intensity and environment were real. We attended a watch party and it was one giant celebration. I am rather thrilled of all the people who love soccer.

Messi Situation

I get it. Messi’s good. The MLS. It’s 20+ teams and Messi. He is oversaturated. There were some calls by the referee that one must shake their head. Who doesn’t like an underdog story.  Certainly the people of Egypt who felt the Messi bias knocked them out of the tournament.

From Abroad

I was in Germany for the knockout round. I was hoping for Germany to advance and then watch matches with the locals. That did not happen, but still I watched a game with people from Scotland. Soccer is a unifying sport that brings people together and I love that experience especially with people from other cultures . It didn’t matter much what country you were rooting for, the people generally boo with vivid distain the head of FIFA as well as the president of the Divided States of Merica,

John Strong

He did play-by-play for the Portland Timbers when I first started getting into soccer. Listening to him on the radio was a treasure. His play by play for the today’s games were strong with an underling home team (@FIFA) bias. Still good to listen to it made me wax nostalgic a little.

Red Card to The Convicted Felon

I lost interest in the World Cup when our convicted felon pleaded a red card notification which admittedly distracted the United States team. I don’t know that I was rooting with the US team and I wasn’t rooting against him.

Spain Wins

Our family had an office pool. I picked the teams mathematically and without any feelings at all other than I wanted Harry Kane to explode in the middle of the field. At one point I had France winning it all. I guess that’s why they play the games. Oh yeah, they play the games to make money as well..
