Which celebrity would you love to meet, and what would you talk about?
The Brothers Smothers
One day we were sitting in a bar in Minneapolis. It was a day after the marathon and I was a bit sore and just passing time before my flight came in. In walked The Smothers brothers. We sat and talked to them for a while, and they were truly funny. I honestly did not know who I was talking to until my date pointed out who they were.
Multiplying by Negative One
Myself and two friends we ran across the state of Maryland to raise money for breast cancer. After the run we were on stage at the national mall and Jimmy Carter came up and started talking to me. Not to be outdone , Dan Quayle did the same. My friends said I said I never really met anyone as they both canceled each other out.
We worked with the Quayle family that entire week and they were like any other family with bratty kids and a proper level of disfunction.
Whipsmart
I met Liz Phair after a concert in Portland. I assumed she was six foot one from the opening song on her earth breaking album Exile in Guyville.
And I kept standing 6’1″
Instead of five-feet-two
And I loved my life

She was rather nice and was only five feet two.
Diego Valeri (DV8)
Diego is a very talented footballer. From 2013 to 2021, Valeri played for Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers, and is regarded as one of the league’s greatest players of all time, as well as the greatest player in Portland Timbers history.
His daughter played soccer at the same facility that I played. Diego would sometimes join us during warm-ups and it was an honor to play football with him.
It was also an honor to share a birthday with him. The thing is celebrities are no different than you and I. We would sit and talk. We just sat and talked as normal human beings. I don’t seek out celebrity. But if I did.
- I would like to talk to Jodi Picoult about the book writing process. (Apparently my wife met her last night)
- I have an argument with Neil Degrasse Tyson I would like to finish.
- I could talk to Obama for hours. I just listened to his speech at Colgate. It was terrific.
- Jodi Foster is a bad ass and woukd love to lock horns with her.
And it all goes back to the cosmos and Carl Sagan. He was a hero of mine.
