What is about Autumn that makes it so magical?
I’ve talked about it before we have a fifth season here in the Pacific Northwest known as wildfire season. It is a season where after an extended dry period there are wildfires that makes some components of living rather difficult. Many people think it rains all year round in Pacific Northwest but we get no rain at all from the middle of July to the beginning of October.

We moved 200 miles north and it’s not as bad as the weather is cooler and this has been a tepid wilfire season.
But autumn is special. The light in autumn bends differently than other times of the year. You know it when you see it. The crispness in the air is invigorating as there are harbingers of the rainy season to come.
Ode To That Last Tomato
Words by Pink Martini
You gotta hold on, hold on through the night
Hang on, things will be all right
Even when it’s dark
And not a bit of spark
Sing-song sunshine from above
Spreading rays of sunny love
Although I’m not much of a football fan, there’s something about the distant sound of a high school marching band. Our lawn is littered with chestnuts. The leaves are spreading their vibrant hue.
In many years past this was the time of year where I was in peak shape getting ready for a fall marathon. These are different times, but running this time of year is still special. Autumn happens to be the time of a new beginning and in the words of Rod Stewart.
Wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin’ to say to you
It’s late September and I really should be back at school
And I transition back to an early September day driving across the Hampton Bay Bridge tunnel on my first day of graduate school full of anticipation

I would love to hear you opinion as well
