Aliases in B Minor

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?

Big

I’ve been part of this running group almost my entire adult life. And in this group we drink beer and we run a lot and we never discuss our work. After a while, you are given a name and it is your name for life within that context. The name follows you all over the planet. Großer in German, Grande in Spanish.

Until it isn’t. I used to get a phone calls asking for BIG. Not too much anymore now that social media is around.

Johnny Speed

I used to enter running races using this name. I just didn’t want to be sold things. I used my real name in races where I qualified for Boston. In retrospect, it would’ve been fun to run Boston as Johnny Speed.

Peach

That was my nickname in high school. It followed me for a while, but never made it west of the Mississippi. There is a longer story behind the name and I don’t really like it much.

Opa

That is the name the grandkids use for me. It is German for grandfather. It’s a cool name, but sometimes I don’t like to admit that I’m old enough to have grandkids..

Kenneth

What is the frequency Kenneth? It is that frequency that I am called Kenneth.. That is my actual first name but nobody calls me it.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

I’m Mark

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
