Anna Tivel

Anna Tivel

What was the last live performance you saw?

We are starting to gather memories of places we are going to miss. Mississippi Studios is one of those.

We saw Anna Tivel and her band play on Saturday . Her band was tight. Her latest album Animal Poems is spectacular. The vibe there was special. The crowd seemed to relax and happy to be away from the madness, that is the United States.

I’m on top of a lot of new music, but I found this artist by accident. We were going out to celebrate my birthday and she just happened to be playing on the weekend at my favorite studio. I spent a lot of time listening to her music this week and understanding her poetry.

Anna is from Portland and I highly recommend giving her a listen. I love the presence of Anna because it felt like a night orchestrated for us. We plan to see her when she plays in Carnation this summer.

She takes an everyday experience and turns it into a masterful poem within a song. Widely celebrated as one of the most gifted storytellers of her generation, her music is often compared to the introspective and literary styles of Paul Simon, Adrianne Lenker, and Elliott Smith

This reads like a very tender memory—one that is as much about a place as it is about the feeling of being inside a moment you already know you’ll miss.
What stands out most is the atmosphere you capture around Mississippi Studios. It isn’t described just as a venue, but as a kind of emotional space—somewhere the noise of the outside world softens, and people collectively settle into something calmer and more human. That sense of shared relief and presence gives the memory its warmth.

Happy belated birthday! What a cool venue and I’ll give her a listen.

We are planning to see her out in Carnation. I don’t know the venue well. Thank you for the birthday wishes. I am almost flabbergasted we will be living in Everett in less than two weeks.

You’ve made these big changes really fast! I’m sure it’s an incredible, but overwhelming at times, feeling. I felt kind of ‘startled deer’ after my move.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
