How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

I’m in a Racquetball league, and I’m somewhat in over my head playing against people that are 20 to 30 years younger than me. I knew that going in.

I lost my first two matches. I would win the first game and lose the second two. Yes, my legs would get tired but for me, it’s a thing of concentration. My mind was prepared to play for a half hour, but all my matches lasted longer than an hour.

Last night I had the same scenario. I won the first game 15 to 10. Against the run of play I turned up the focus and effort. There was no way I was going to let this go to a third game. Especially since I have a game tonight.

In the end, I learned from those two earlier games and won the second game handily , and was home; in time for dinner.

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
