570 Carrots

570 Carrots

What’s your favorite candy?

I remember as a kid going to the penny candy store on summer evenings. I still remember how pleasurable that was for me.

I can’t say I had a favorite, but I didn’t prefer chocolate. I don’t remember them being for sale either. I loved all types of licorice and licorice was a Pennsylvania religion of sorts. I certainly like sweet tarts as well.

Dentist

I also vividly going to the dentist often. It is all interrelated. He was a strange guy who gave us chalk to take home. They were Indian trinkets and they didn’t fare well on the chalkboards of the day. They didn’t even erase well.

Posing as an Adult

I don’t eat many candies as an adult. Being vegan rules out many.

We do have edibles here in Oregon and Washington. they are available in stores and are cheap. One little “sweet tart” and you are a little more relaxed.

I eat a ton of carrots and eat them like candy.

Years ago I listened to The Counting Crows Hard Candy album far too much. It has some bittersweet memories.

The morning showers you with light
And it makes you feel alright
But it’s just the same hard candy
You’re remembering again

This is a wonderfully layered reflection—nostalgic, a little quirky, and quietly honest. I love how candy becomes a thread that connects childhood freedom, the oddity of the dentist, evolving values, and even music and memory. The shift from penny candy to carrots, from Sweet Tarts to Hard Candy, feels natural and thoughtful, not forced.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
