Inevitability of a Ludite

Write about your first computer.

I wrote earlier today about programming a TRS80 when I worked my first job out of college. It is a banal essay not worth reading unless you are the super nerdy type who enjoys writing Python on parallel machines.

I was an accountant in Falls Church Virginia. I already had my own computer by then but didn’t use it except for spreadsheets and essays I wrote.

My Job

My job was to liaison between computer science and the accounting department. I rather enjoyed that job and it was a niche for a while.

My boss was a nice guy, but I think he wanted me to stay. I told him I really enjoyed the computer side and would really liked to program.

He told me that was a tough transition,.

I took classes at a local community college. The text barely mentioned relational databases. I struggled but rather enjoyed. About a year later I went to work with a database company. I was so proud as my offer letter was signed by Larry Ellison,

Who I now despise.

As a right wing zealot with malfunctioning moral compass.

Today

And here I sit today with most of the information I will ever need in the palm of my hands. I have computers and computers to track computers. Yet I still like old fashioned methods. Give me a pentel pencil and a blank piece of paper and I am happy.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

I’m Mark

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
