Reflection on a Special Moment

At the time we never know we are living in a magic moment. I think about that often, whether the moment I’m living now will be a magic moment in the future.

One year our oldest daughter bought me a gift that was one of the best gifts ever. I don’t know how our kids developed this skill set of giving the perfect present .

She bought art classes for her and I.. We got to spend eight weeks in an art studio one day a week.

And We Simply Painted

I remember the teachers name was Phil. Phil did not teach us to paint. He just let us paint. I don’t remember a single discussion about technique.. We did talk a lot of philosophy in class.. The people in this class were brilliant. They were some of the purer discussions I’ve had in a long time. In a way it opened up a complete new world for myself, but I did not realize that until a few years later..

Did I mention we painted.

I imagine most art classes do not have a syllabus. I know this class didn’t. Usually we had two or three paintings going at the same time. Sometimes we painted using our weaker hand. We’ve even had a nude model one day I didn’t know what to think of that. I think my painting of him may have been one of my worst. Please remember I have a BS and not a BA. I think I saw the model later slip off to a bar on the same block..

We play the part.

And one of our classes we had an assignment to bring in something we wanted to paint. I completely forgot about the assignment. I don’t remember where it exactly was, but I had a copy of a Harper‘s magazine in my briefcase or backpack. I don’t really remember.

I simply started painting the cover of the magazine. It was one of my favorites from when I learned to love creating art. Your kids can’t give you a better gift. The appreciation of art I share with our kids is special to me. Those eight weeks in art class are a treasure. .

I would love to hear you opinion as well

He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
