Begin at The End

If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

Obsessed

Since Luna was a puppy, she has this habit of chasing her tail. Whoever designed a Jack Russell terrier had a little foresight. They are the dog with grit and determination. They also gave the dog a short tail and a short neck, but they probably never can catch their tail. I have been trying to tell her that for years, but she persists.

But She Persists

I tell her in multiple languages that “Du kannst deinen Schwanz nicht fangen.” she made a New Year’s resolution this year to catch your tail. It is her 10th revolution around the planet, and she thinks she can do it. I tried to temper expectations, but her zeal and stubbornness cannot be broken. I don’t want to break her heart, but I do want her to understand she might not ever catch her tail.

Think outside the Bach.

If I put a little classical music on in the morning, she sometimes tries a strategy of putting on the brakes and then going in the opposite direction, hoping to fool her tail. It hasn’t worked yet.

So Called Experts

For dogs who are not getting enough daily physical activity, there is a simple solution to tail chasing. If owners engage their dogs in more aerobic exercise by tossing a ball or taking them for a walk, the tail chasing may cease. After all, most dogs would rather chase a ball than their own tails. For dogs that are simply bored, owners can supply stimulating food puzzles that require time and brain power to solve.

Response

Don’t believe everything on the Internet. I run 4 miles a day with her. I have run up to 13 with her and she still chases her tail. Maybe one day she will catch it, dream big my girl.

What a delightful and tender piece. It’s funny, thoughtful, and quietly touching—using Luna’s tail-chasing as a metaphor for persistence, hope, and the joy of trying even when success is unlikely. The love and humor in your observations shine through, and the ending is especially warm. A beautiful reminder that sometimes the chasing itself is the point

I would love to hear you opinion as well
