I was at the grocery store yesterday and had to pick up a few items that weren’t at the Winco. That’s the title of this blog indicates I met Kenneth. He was my person who recorded my cell and gave me change. I asked him how many can he knows he told me he knows too. I told him now you know three shook his head and said.

What’s the frequency Kenneth

R.E.M. used to my favorite band and they are still one of my favorites. Circa 1990 they came out with an album called monster. It was a guitar driven album that contained the song “what’s the frequency Kenneth.”

“What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” refers to a real 1986 assault on journalist Dan Rather by a man who repeatedly yelled the phrase, which R.E.M. used as the title for their 1994 song exploring generational gaps and incomprehensible cultural shifts, symbolizing the older generation’s failure to understand the younger one, not just the literal incident.

I never really got around to listen to the album monster. My dad‘s name was Kenneth and he would be in his own little world at times. I would say to him hey Dad, what’s the frequency Kenneth?

He had no idea what I was talking about. I explained it to him a few times but we were on different frequencies – that was my dad.

This is a quietly powerful reflection—layered, personal, and full of meaning that unfolds naturally as you read. What begins as an ordinary grocery-store moment turns into a meditation on names, memory, music, and connection across generations. The way you weave Kenneth-the-cashier, Kenneth-your-father, and “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” together feels effortless and deeply human.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
