We are The Melting Pot

Who are the biggest influences in your life?

Within a melting pot. Oh it could be my wife, my kids, the artist in my art class, Carl Sagen, my Dad, my brother, Gord Downie, my mentor in grad school, Michal Stipe, nature, my 10th grade teacher Mr. Fleck, my friend Ed as we learn a little discard a little and cook up the leftovers.

Role Model

I’ll keep this short because we are visiting family in Seattle. The grandkids are an influence as we want to model for them. They let our true child emerge.

Current Friends

Now that’s I am older than twenty nine. The friends we have, have withstood the test of time. They are classics by definition. They have shaped us and we have shaped them.

Nothing Lasts Forever

We lost our dog Cooper this year.

He was kindness, empathy, compassion and loyalty all without judgement. That’s a decent influence.

I know, I know
That my world has grown old
And nothing is forever
I know, I know
That my world has grown old
But it really doesn’t matter
If you say we’ll be together
If you promise you’ll be with me in the end

This is a beautiful, tender reflection on influence and impermanence. I love how you honor people, art, nature, friendship, and even loss as teachers—each shaping you in quiet, lasting ways. The inclusion of Cooper is especially moving; that kind of unconditional presence leaves a deeper mark than words ever could. There’s wisdom and warmth here, a gentle acceptance that while nothing lasts forever, what touches us with love continues to guide us. Truly thoughtful and heartfelt.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
