Listen to Your Own Beat

I decided today, to gather up some old cds and take them to the record store. I believe there were twenty and I looked at the collection. There was some good music in there. There were even cds from vinyl I had purchased recently. (Regina Spektor, Cowboy Junkies, The Decembrists)

I don’t have the means to play cds any more or the inclination to integrate a cd player into my sound system. The car my wife drives, has a cd player but she doesn’t listen to cds in the car. I simply don’t drive that car.

I handed the box of CDs to the owner, who I know somewhat. I said he should take his time to value them. I’m going to go to the library.

When I returned a 45 minutes later, he told me he would give me 60 bucks for that lot and that was fine with me. My objective is only to share the music.

I asked him what is this music he was playing, it is great. One of the reasons I love being in a record store is they have great sound systems.

He told me it was the Lily Allen album he bought from me. I had not listened to it for a while. It sure sounded fresh and new.

I did buy a vinyl version of one of the cds I relinquished {The Roches}.

I turned around and purchased approximately $60 worth of vinyl. I had a good time shopping and we exchanged music stories per our usual banter.

That is how the world of retail should work. We see the big box stores going out of business every day and Amazon trucks clogging our local neighborhood streets.

Sometimes when I’m in a retail store and when asked, how would you like to pay?

I usually say “the barter system.”

Music is a great equalizer.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
