Do You Walk To Work or Carry Your Lunch

Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

I used to be an ultra runner. I have run many an adventure above the tree line running for miles. Oregon and Washington is a Cascadian masterpiece with 10000 feet peaks up and down the coast.

One of my favorite glimpses of nature is where the sky meets the tips of the fir trees. It is mesmerizing. The smell of the alpine forest is intoxicating.

However I am a Beach Person

I grew up on the east coast and we eagerly looked forward to going to the beach in the summer. https://beaglesarebad.blog/2025/07/30/fenwick-island/

Now on the west coast, I find the remote beaches a place of solitude and perfection. Not unlike the mountains, my heartbeat slows, and my perception of the world is keener.

We are big fans of the Oregon coast and more specifically Arch Cape. It has become extremely popular and we have now migrated to the Washington coast. It is remote, simple and a perfect place to sit and reflect.

Here is a poem I wrote about a special place on the coast while listening to Miles Davis

Freddy Freeloader

There is a bench

I know nestled in

the beach grass

where calming cool

breezes along with

the hypnotic roar of

the ocean almost

makes me feel guilty

for listening to

Miles Davis

What a beautifully vivid reflection! Your connection to both the mountains and the coast comes through with such clarity and feeling. The poem is simple, atmospheric, and wonderfully soulful—just like that quiet bench by the ocean. Your words carry the calm of nature and the cool elegance of Miles Davis in every line.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
