The Big Chill
Overview

The “running shoes” scene in The Big Chill features Kevin Kline’s character, Harold, a shoe store owner, who surprises his friends with a delivery of new running shoes from his stores. The scene shows various shoeboxes piled on the kitchen table, from which the characters, waking up at different times, joyfully try on their individually chosen shoes. This act serves to connect with their past as college friends and highlights Kline’s character’s success in the running shoe industry.
William Hurt’s character in this movie tries on the running shoes while completely stoned. He says something similar to I will wear these forever..
