Who are your favorite artists?

Van Gogh in all his sadness makes me happy

Miles Davis in his blue as well

The Tragically Hips tales of Canadian lore,

My son and daughter’s artwork bring chills to my spine.

That little band out of Athens, REM is a soundtrack of my life.

Grandchildren’s refrigerator art.

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget

Like the strangers that you’ve met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

What a beautifully evocative reflection on art and its power to move us! I love how you weave together the timeless brilliance of Van Gogh, Miles Davis, and REM with the intimate, personal creativity of your children and grandchildren. It’s a reminder that art exists not just in masterpieces in galleries, but in every heartfelt expression we encounter—whether on a canvas, a sheet of music, or even a fridge door.

I can still remember first hearing this song. I was a young teen, and then tried to get everyone I knew to hear it. I think only one friend greeted it with the specialness I expected.

Nice artwork with the kids. 🙂

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
