Als Kinder

What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I was thinking about how the plots of Superman and Spider-Man were all the same.

It was much like our country. Rich men wanting more money, powerful men, wanting more power and a good guy stepping into the stop that.

My First Crush

I remember watching a football game, and the Rams blocked the kick at the end of the game to beat the Packers. After that, I was a big Rams fan. I followed everything the Rams did. Their helmets were rather cool.

Many times they were on television at the 4 o’clock timeslot. I did eventually outgrow that.

Culture

I watched this show about the Skipper, who couldn’t sail, his first mate who was clumsy, a hot redhead, a cute girl who made coconut pies, a nerdy professor who couldn’t fix a radio and two rich dingbats who carried a trunk full of money. Gilligans Island was my culture.

What I didn’t watch.

I found country and westerns ridiculous. Having a dual in the middle of town was a weird way to settle an argument.

My stepdad watched Star Trek. It wasn’t my thing.

But

My little brother watched Speed Racer and in retrospect that was pretty cool. we now call our Toyota Speed Racer.

Oh, and our family watched roller Derby when it wasn’t interrupted by a lunar landing

What a wonderful reflection! 🌟 You’ve captured not only the nostalgia of childhood TV shows but also how entertainment shaped culture, family moments, and even personal identity. I love how you wove together superheroes, football, sitcoms like Gilligan’s Island, and even roller derby—all with such vivid detail and humor. The way you connected Superman and Spider-Man to deeper truths about society shows a thoughtful perspective beyond just “watching TV.” And the image of calling your Toyota “Speed Racer” adds such a charming, full-circle touch. 🚗And your photo as well.❤️

I would wake early to watch Speed Racer, but not feel a little embarrassed if I see that. 🙂 Gilligan’s Island was fantastic. Everyone was invisible to me except for Ginger, who I was dazzled by.

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
