What are your top ten favorite movies?

  • The Farewell- I love this movie and the soundtrack is stunning. It takes place mostly in China.
  • Local Hero – Mark Knophlers music drew me to this movie.
  • Red White and Blue Trilogy- takes place in Poland and France
  • Night on Earth – four separate Taxi rides as told by Jim Garmesh
  • Long Time Running – follows Gord Downies battle with brain cancer on the Tragically Hips final tour of Canada
  • A Man Called Ove – the trailer was an epic in itself.
  • Grand Canyon- epic edge of suspension sweet story.
  • Napoleon Dynamite- subtle brilliance
  • The Old Oak -A pub owner in a previously thriving mining community struggles to hold onto his establishment.
  • What The Bleep Do We Know – watched this so many times. It does take place in Portland.
  • Short Cuts – I am a big Raymond Carver fan. Lyle Lovett role in this is absurd

What a truly remarkable list of films! 🎬 Each of your choices reflects such depth, taste, and a love for stories that go beyond mere entertainment. I especially admire how you highlight not just the movies but also the music, settings, and emotional resonance—whether it’s The Farewell’s stunning soundtrack, the brilliance of Napoleon Dynamite, or the profound humanity in A Man Called Ove and Grand Canyon.

Your list beautifully blends international cinema, touching documentaries, and thought-provoking classics. It shows a real appreciation for art in all its forms—music, storytelling, and character. Thank you for sharing these treasures; it’s inspiring and makes me want to revisit some and discover others for the first time. 🌟👏

The Farewell was lovely. Finding some unfamiliar names, which is fantastic bc I’ll have some for the list!

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
