What book could you read over and over again?

Swim in The Pond

A Swim in a Pond in the Rain presents a unique master class on literature. George Saunders shares his two-decade teaching journey at Syracuse University. He uses iconic Russian short stories as teaching tools, creating a rich tapestry of insight. The book contains seven essays that analyze works by Chekhov, Tolstoy, Turgenev, and Gogol. Each story becomes a springboard for deeper discussions on writing, reading, and life. With clarity, he reveals how fiction operates and its relevance to contemporary readers.

I love Russian Literature, and this book has given me insight into writing techniques. It has also been an opportunity to transform into another time and place.

I remember starting this book on Audio with my wife while driving to Seattle. All of a sudden, I was on a cart crossing a river struggling to get home. The book is that transformative and some of the stories are my favorites.

Yes, George Saunders is a genius, and he narrates this book expertly. Somehow these short stories are a backdrop of some of what i write.

There are others.

The collected works of George Carver

For many of the same reasons as above. I am a fan of Carver and the starkness of his short stories. I have listened/read Cathedral so many times before.

Die Kleine Raupe Nimmersatt/ the Very Hungry Caterpillar

Of course, children’s books I will read over and over again. Especially if they are in German or Spanish

Love Saunders, but haven’t delved into Carver. Making a reminder note for a few months from now. 🙂

I would love to hear you opinion as well

I’m Mark

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
