Random Encounters 2

People who know me and know me well know I talk to everybody and get in the most random conversations with a random array of people.

The Guy Holding A Horse on The Train

We were heading to the Portland Trailblazers game last night when we took the train into town. Everybody seemed to be in a good mood and surprisingly we were right on time.

Some guy across the aisle was rambling on, about something I don’t know exactly what. However, he seemed innocent enough. He was talking about North Portland, where he lives. It is one of the more downscale neighborhoods in Portland still, it’s kinda highly gentrified.. I love that neighborhood and we always talk about it.

As I talk to him, I noticed he was holding a hobby horse, kind of looked like a pogo stick with a horse on the end.

So I asked him what’s the deal with your horse? He told me he found this pristine horse as he was cleaning up his “neigh -borhood”. I couldn’t resist.

He asked me why I asked, and I told him it’s kind of cool to walk around with a horse.

My wife sat next to me, rolling her eyes, knowing this is normal for me.

He told me, that most people assumed he was a person of color, or he was Latino just because the color of his skin.

I told him the last thing I noticed of him was the color of his skin.

His response, brother I like you.

I think if we all walked around town with a horse, no one would ever notice the color of our skin.

Yay or neigh.

I’m Mark

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
