Who are your current most favorite people?

George Saunders is #1 New York Times bestselling author of twelve books, including Lincoln in the Bardo, which won the 2017 Man Booker Prize for best work of fiction in English and was a finalist for the Golden Man Booker, in which one Booker winner was selected to represent each decade, from the fifty years since the …prize’s inception. His most recent book is Liberation Day, a collection of short stories chosen as one of President Barack Obama’s favorite books of 2022.  A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, a best-selling exploration of the Russian short story, was published in 2020

“ A Swim in the Pond in theRain” is one of my all time favorites, not so much for what is in, rather how much fun I have had reading it. I have read it three times. This book introduced me more deeply into Russian Literature. One of The Stories explored is “Alyosha The Pot”. Besides Carvers “Cathedral ” I found it the most perfect short story I have read.

I am in the middle of reading “Liberation Day.” And once again it is a lot of fun.

LOVE Saunders! I even subscribed to his story club for a while, but then felt terribly about not participating. I’ve not picked up Liberation Day yet, but I think I’ve read Lincoln in the Bardo 3 times just to be in the world/mood of it.

I have read the first three stories. The first was downright bizarre, the second absolutely brilliant and the third a must read. I feel like I am embarking on an adventure when I read his books. I especially like listening. He has a voice and tenor that is addictive.

I would love to hear you opinion as well

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
