Lap Swim

I have been a runner all my life. To clarify, all my adult life.

As we get older, especially for me running has become more difficult. I put too many miles in over too few years.

I also spend a lot of time hunched over a computer terminal writing python code all day long.

Which brings me to the point of, I wake up sore pretty much every single day. It’s not debilitating, but certainly is annoying and it limits your joy of the day to day. Which brings me back the to lap swim

On the surface, no pun intended, it seems like a banal activity swimming from one end of the pool to the other end of the pool, turning around and doing the same thing. And repeat that for another 30 minutes.

But you know what, yeah it’s monotonous. However, it’s a great time for introspection. It is a little exercise on focus and creativity. Yes I prefer running and being outside, but the lap swims make me feel fantastic and gives me the halo effect for the rest of the day.

That my friends is a side effect of endorphins.

His friends observe Mark seems wired a little differently. Perhaps it’s more likely that noticing little things often missed by others is a relic of a quieter, simpler time. He has a way with words, which he refuses to let be hindered by sub-par typing skills. People have great stories to tell if you sit and listen.

A belief dear to Mark is that there is certain beauty in the world. You simply have to look for it.
