We have been putting change in our piggy bank for years hoping to go to a European top tier football match. in retrospect it’s not easy to get a 50 pound piggy bank through customs. Also, European futball is far cheaper than it American counterpart.
Late last year we had the pleasure of seeing a Frankfurt match versus Gladbach. It was a pleasant evening from the train ride to the match until the final whistle. Frankfurt ended up winning two to one.
A beer with a mug cost less than five Euros. A vegan hot dog cost about the same. Security before the game was about the same as at an MLS match.
The guy sitting next to us was smoking. I think he was vaping but that may be a reflection of how little it bothered me. It is a curious difference to that in the states. If that was my season ticket seat our reaction may have different.
For a second, I thought we were venturing far of our comfort zones. My German is adequate but not fully fluent. That’s part of the adventure.
